1: A Photographic Exploration

Catherine Rebois was born in Nancy, lives, and works in Paris. She is a photographer and a photography specialist. She approaches this medium as an artist, theorist/researcher, and curator. She also teaches in France and abroad, including in Munich.

After studying film production and extensively working in documentaries and press photography, she earned a PhD in Plastic Arts. Today, she holds a doctorate in Aesthetics, Arts, and Technology of Arts, specializing in Plastic Arts and Photography. She has published two theoretical volumes on photography and its challenges with L’Harmattan editions, prefaced by Françoise Paviot and Alain Chareyre-Méjan, titled "From Experience to Photographic Identity" and "From Experience to Recognition".

Corps Lato Sensu, published in September 2012 by Trans Photographique Presse, features a foreword by Dominique Baqué. She exhibits regularly, and her work was twice selected as a finalist for the Niépce Prize in 2001 and 2003.

This exhibition brings together ten unique perspectives on the various challenges photography poses today. Themes range from intimate portraits to still life, creative staging, and more abstract explorations. Each photographer presents a unique story.

The diversity reflects not only the individual interests and perspectives of the participants but also the richness of the inspirations cultivated during the sessions. They have developed an understanding of photography, creating works that captivate with originality and aesthetics.

These photographs touch on diverse issues such as environmental concerns, social topics, and feminism, opening doors to unique forms of expression. The exhibition invites the viewer to practice the art of seeing. It offers a unique opportunity to discover the emerging work of these ten photographers and celebrate their vitality.

The works displayed reflect their dedication and passion for this medium, sparking questions about their sources of inspiration. The photographers have drawn on their inventiveness to bring these works to life. This is the culmination of nine months of work primarily done in a studio setting as part of Paris City’s photography courses, "Digital Photography in the Studio," curated by artist-photographer and instructor Catherine Rebois.

2: Analysis of the "Nouveau Regard" Exhibition

Most of these photographs employ a four-color chromatic mode, as four primary colors stand out more distinctly. The colors are warm and vivid, and the image resolution is of high quality. The "Nouveau Regard" photography exhibition offers an innovative visual exploration that invites viewers to rethink their relationship with images.

Through a selection of striking shots, the exhibition highlights new perspectives, play with light, and bold compositions. Each photograph seeks to deconstruct traditional representation codes, offering fresh viewpoints on everyday subjects. The photographers' work reflects a desire to capture moments from different angles, often intimate, while engaging emotions and senses. This approach reinvents the perception of reality, creating a visual experience that stimulates reflection on the art of seeing.

3: Critique from a Non-Photography Enthusiast

I struggled to understand the photographs. There were many colors, characters, and elements that didn’t seem to fit together or follow a coherent theme. Each photo next to another seemed to tell a different story, making the whole exhibition confusing. While the venue aligned with the theme, it didn’t sufficiently enhance the photographs.

4: Critique from a Photography Enthusiast

Similarly, I found it difficult to discern a clear artistic direction in this exhibition. Some photos appeared rather ostentatious, and certain messages could have been conveyed differently.
