Madame is our cultural favorite for the fall: a play by the Bliss'Art company with dark humor about Madame Claude, showing at the Théâtre Clavel in Paris on October 12, 19, and 26 at 9:30 PM.
Madame is a play performed by clowns, telling the story of the infamous madam, Madame Claude. The blend of genres is truly delightful, and we’re thrilled to see such an original play on stage. It quickly strips away all our preconceived notions.
What better way than clowns and laughter to sublimate, divert, and denounce a scandalous character whose motivations rhyme with money, sex, and power!
Working on Madame Claude means working on a character of undeniable power. Leading a highly structured system built on domination and dependence, Madame Claude is both shepherd and wolf. People flock to her because she is an institution. There's a lot of money to be made—but at the cost of seeing one's body transformed into a tool of labor and income.
"Madame" is a show I thoroughly enjoyed. The subject is both original and intriguing, leading me to reflect on the personality of this woman. The acting is impressive, and humor is effectively used to address a topic that could otherwise be uncomfortable. A must-see." – on BilletReduc
By allowing space for their "creature," a clown, the actors delved into a rich and singular universe where they could explore and develop their individual clown characters. Then one day, through sheer coincidence, they mentioned Madame Claude, sparking numerous questions and a desire to create a clown-inspired performance around this complex and inspiring figure.
Performances on Saturdays, October 12, 19, and 26, 2024, at 9:30 PM at Théâtre Clavel, 3 Rue Clavel – 75019 Paris.
